There are so many different brands of denim these days, it can be overwhelming to find a good pair of jeans no matter how fat your wallet may be. All body types are unique and that's a whole different post, but in my opinion there are 5 different styles of denim you need in your closet- buy them and you will be prepared for any situation.

1. THE BOOT LEG. An all-American classic. Find one with a little stretch and a nice dark wash so you can dress 'em up or down. Remember, the tailor IS YOUR FRIEND! If you can afford to, buy 2 and hem one for flats and one for heels.

* Pictured, 7 for all Mankind makes an amazing boot cut jean. These are the Stretch Boot Cut in Mercer wash and can be found at for $121-171

*Another nice pair are these by J.Crew for a modest $98

*For just under $30, these Old Navy boot cut jeans are a great find

2. THE SKINNY. How skinny you go is up to you. Personally, I like to have a nice skinny jeans that is slightly bunchy around the ankles to wear with heels.

*Pictured, Roxanne Skinny by 7 for all Mankind, $155 at

* Black is a great choice if you are subconscious about a skinny fit. It is also a great neutral, especially if you have an edgier taste. Banana Republic makes this great one for $90.

*If you're on a tighter budget, try local discounters like
TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, or Loehman's for steals on premium denim!

3. THE JEGGING- Skinny jeans are great, but lately, I have been a huge fan of the "jegging." Jegging is the term for a jean that is so skin tight it fits like a legging. A good pair hits right below the ankle for a clean, un-bunched look, but the BEST part of a jegging is how easy and comfortably it fits into a boot. So, if you love boots like I do, you must own a jegging.

*Left, picture by Adriano Goldschmeid makes the best jegging I have found thus far! The elastic waistband was a little weird at first, but they look great with a tunic and are so comfortable, you'll never want to take them off.

*JBrand Jeans also make an amazing jegging. Their jeans are all made to fit like leggings, so the ankle length skinnies work well.

*Another great version by Juicy Couture

4. THE BOYFRIEND- The boyfriend jean can be unflattering, but done right, it lends that perfectly casual yet stylish vibe and can be dressed up or down, especially with the glunge trend so hot right now. I love to wear mine unperfectly and just barely rolled up at the bottoms so they hit above the ankle. Pair them with booties for night time or cute flats for day.

*Picture, from These are my FAVORITE pair of boyfriend jeans. Order them in your usual size for a great, not-too-baggy fit.

 5. THE TROUSER/WIDE LEG- These are the perfect 'casual Friday' jeans. Leg elongating and perfectly fitted, they look AMAZING with heels. Pair with a blazer and nice blouse at the office and add sparkly earrings

*Pictured at left, image by is the JBrand Lovestory. I'm wearing these now:) They are so flattering and the light-weight denim has the perfect amount of stretch, PLUS the fact that I ordered them a size smaller than normal makes me smile when I put them on!

*Citizens of Humanity also make great fitting wide leg denim! If you have smaller hips, I especially love the Trouser Wide Leg in Venus- and it's on sale!

Personally, I'm a big fan of premium denim because I find the fit and quality of the denim are incomparable... but, if you don't have the money to spend on a pair of recognizable designer jeans, find something with nice clean pockets, a good wash, and a great fit and no one will know the difference besides you! Another wallet friendly tip is to go to a department store, find a pair you like, and write down the size and style name so you can look them up on e-bay at home and bid on the same style.
If you're not looking for a tight, low-cut jean, try brands like JAG jeans or Not Your Daughter's Jeans- you can find these both on!

I'm really enjoying your blog! It's like having our own personal fashion consultant! So, with the NYDJ jeans, would boot cut be best for casual low-heeled shoes?
