The ELECTRICFRINGE Guide to Las Vegas

Yes, this sign does exist. It's on Las Vegas Blvd headed north just before casino row. It's actually pretty disappointing because it's caged in this tiny strip of grass and a small parking lot.

Oh well, Ah, "Sin City." Whether you're coming here for your bachelorette/bachelor party, 21st birthday, getting-over-your-ex vacation, spring break, to gamble, or because you've always wanted to snort coke off a hookers ass, I'm sure you are wondering what to do in the most overwhelming  3.8 miles of road in the country. Well I am here to tell you!
One of the perks to living in such a wild place is that there is a constant influx of visitors. One of the downsides to that is everyone is always asking me what to do. I've only lived here for a year, so I'm definitely not an expert. In fact, I rarely make it to the strip these days (until next month) but I've gathered recommendations from everyone to compile this one be all.end all GUIDE TO VEGAS. I don't care what you've seen on TV or heard through the grapevine, this is from people who live and breathe Las Vegas, so trust me. Let the fun begin!

Favorite Restaurants: Firefly, Mon Ami Gabi, n9ne
Firefly is my personal favorite. It's a hidden gem very popular with the locals, but overlooked by  most tourists because it is not on the strip. There are two locations and both are a very cheap taxi ride. If you're staying at the Hard Rock on Paradise, the first location is just down the street. The second location is at the Plaza on Main St. downtown. I always take my friends downtown when they visit because Fremont St. is pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me. It's 'old school Las Vegas' at it's best.
Favorite Night Clubs: XS (Encore), Pure (Caesars), The Bank (Bellagio), Haze(Aria)
XS is my personal favorite because of the space. The pool is opened up at night and serves as a retreat from the strobe lights and smokey interior. If you're ready to splurge, you can even rent a cabana and make use of the club's personal cocktail waitresses, but this will costs you thousands so call ahead and know what you're getting yourself into. If you reserve a table at any club, be ready to tip in cash 20% at least. Pure is home to the Pussy Cat Dolls, The Bank is a classic favorite (I was there during a Lady Gaga look alike contest one night and it was hysterical), and Haze is the brand new hot spot at City Center.
Favorite Party Pools: Ditch Fridays at the PALMS, Wet Republic at MGM, and BARE at the Mirage
The Buzz on the strip is getting louder for SURRENDER, the new nightclub/pool party at Encore opening Sunday May 30th, 2010. Supposedly it is going to blow everywhere else out of the water.
Whatever you've seen on TV, REHAB is not the best pool party anymore. In fact, strip dwellers avoid this pool because of its filth and bad reputation.
Favorite 'Vacation' Pools: "M" Daydream pool, Mandalay Beach
Best Pub: Todd English
Great food, Great drinks, poor service. Worth it though! If you can drink a pint in 7 seconds, you won't pay a penny and if it's raining get your butt there because drinks are half price.
Place We All Take Our Friends: The Fremont Street Experience.
Eat at Firefly at the Plaza, gamble at the Golden Nugget, buy a 'yard' drink, and hit up the hipster end of East Fremont for great cocktails at Downtown Lounge, The Griffin, Beauty Bar, and Sidebar. (I saw Holly Madison at the Griffin!)
Most Authentic Vegas Experience: Dinner at the Fireside Lounge in the Peppermill, souvineers at BONANZA, The Euro pool at the Flamingo, JUBILE, the Botanical Garden and the Fountains at the Bellagio, the ride on top of the Stratosphere, the Liberate Museum, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum!
Best Show to See: LOVE
Cheap Eats: In N' Out, Strip Burger
The closest In N' Out to the strip is off of Tropicana on Dean Martin. You'll have to take a cab, but it's worth it!
Best strip club: Spearmint Rhino
Best sex toy store: Love Boutique
Best place to gamble: Caesars, Circus Circus, Excalibur
low minimums
Most Beautiful Hotels: the Wynn, Bellagio, Aria
Best Places to Spot Celebs: Shopping at CRYSTALS, Wet Republic pool party, PURE, n9ne Steakhouse
Best Shopping: Vegas has everything- for high end go to CRYSTALS, for moderate shop FORUM or Miracle Mile, for budget shop the Fashion Show Mall or the Premium Outlets on Charleston

My two day recommendation:
Night 1: Do the strip thing. Eat at n9ne, go to Ghost Bar, Moon, and the Playboy Club
Night 2: Do the Fremont St. Experience thing. Eat at Firefly overlooking Fremont, gamble at the Golden Nugget where Frank Sinatra and his boys used to hang, walk down Fremont drinking a yard (those giant plastic drinks with shoulder straps), wander over to East Fremont and buy the strawberry rhubarb cocktail at the hidden Downtown Lounge, go to Beauty Bar, and the Griffin. The Griffin is a dark, Gothic hangout with two round fireplaces and cheap beer. There's a dance floor in the back they open up on weekends if it's crowded enough. The point of this place is to mingle and make friends. I saw Holly Madison here after her Peep Show one night in a blue velour jumpsuit (NOT OK!).

And of course, let me know if you have questions:)
